ABBA documentaries – broadcast dates announced...sort of...

published March 20, 2024

Broadcast dates, rather vague in some cases, have been announced for a number of ABBA productions that I have contributed to. They are all a part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the group's Eurovision Song Contest victory, of course.

ABBA: Against The Odds - This 90-minute documentary will be shown in many countries, receiving its world premiere at the Danish CPH:DOX festival in Denmark on March 23rd. SVT in Sweden is making it a two-parter, under the title Sagan om ABBA, which will be made available on SVT Play on 6 April (the 50th anniversary of ABBA's victory); presumably, part one will be broadcast as part of their two-hour ABBA celebrations on the evening of 6 APRIL. The Dutch broadcaster will air the programme on 5 MAY on their NPO 3 channel, just prior to the Eurovision Song Contest week of 7–11 May. The BBC will air the programme "later in the spring", i.e. probably around the time of Eurovision.

When ABBA Came To Britain, which I was interviewed for, explores ABBA's history with the UK, from the 1960s to the present day (similar programmes have been made about Blondie, Tina Turner and Bob Marley). It will be broadcast as part of an ABBA night on BBC in early April.

Eras: ABBA is a BBC Radio 2 production: a four-part series exploring ABBA's career, following on from similar series on Kylie Minogue and The Beatles. The first two episodes will be broadcast on 7 April.
