ABBA Live 1973 – library findings

published April 02, 2025

Yesterday, I was back at the National Library of Sweden, continuing my research into the fascinating and largely unknown story of ABBA's first tour of Sweden. My findings will be included in the book ABBA Live 1973 (working title), which you can support by pre-ordering right now – if you place your order no later than 20 May 2025, you will get a 10% price reduction!

I found the attached photo in a microfilmed newspaper; the ABBA members were snapped and interviewed at one of their 1973 tour stops. I don't think this photo has been seen very much in the 52 years since it was taken, so that was a cool find: I hope to be able to publish it in better quality in the book. I also found other interesting stuff in those old newspapers: everything from concert ads to reviews – and even evidence that some of the shows in their itinerary may have been cancelled. All will be revealed in the book...

It's still early days for this project and naturally my research won't stop at microfilmed newspapers – although there are many more of those to go through – but I'm already excited about the things I'm finding and learning. It just proves to me that, compared to the other legendary pop and rock acts, the ABBA story is still under-researched. There's work to be done here!

The more pre-orders I get, and the sooner I get them, the better it will be for the end result, so please place your orders for the book. In return, I promise to deliver a really great and interesting volume about this tour. Thanks so much for your support.

Rare: ABBA snapped at one of their tour stops in the summer of 1973.
