The good, the bad and the curious of Yuletide music.

I have a soft spot for George Formby. The British ukulele/banjolele player and singer was a huge star during his 1930s and 1940s heyday, and I remember seeing his films on Swedish TV in the 1970s. I have a couple of CD compilations and found 1933's Sitting On The Ice In The Ice Rink on one of them. His songs often were a bit naughty or at least had double entendres in them, and there seems to some of that at the end of this song, what with the references to buttons busting off trousers and getting in a tangle. Blush if you must. The songs also often featured a bit where Formby played a rhythmical solo - those solos still sound pretty cool to me; check it out at 02:35 in this song.
Listen to Sitting On The Ice In The Ice Rink.
Or listen on Spotify, where I've created a playlist for this year's Advent Calendar.
The Spotify playlist for all the previous Advent Calendars is here. Note: The playlist is incomplete, as some of my calendar selections are just too obscure for Spotify.
The ukulele/banjolele legend chronicles his skating adventures.
