ABBA In Japan

ABBA In Japan features a television special made in Japan in 1978. Simply entitled "ABBA Special", it helped the group achieve their definitive breakthrough in Japan. Today, it's a fun look back at ABBA performing some of their greatest hits, showcasing an array of the spectacular costumes for which they are remembered today, but it also shows how television specials were produced back in the 1970s, and specifically in Japan.

The DVD came in two versions. One was a single-disc edition featuring the television special plus a behind-the-scenes documentary from 1978 and the performance of television special performance of 'If It Wasn't For The Nights' with an alternate sound mix. The other was a double-disc edition containing the first disc as described above, plus a second disc featuring a behind-the-scenes documentary from ABBA's 1980 tour of Japan, and photo and sleeve galleries.

I researched the project and also contributed an essay about the making of the television special and ABBA's Japanese success story in general.
