The Spanish-language recordings ABBA did between 1979 and 1981 constitute a not very well-known part of their career. After two initial singles, an entire album,
entitled Gracias por la música, was put together in 1980. Later the same
year, two further Spanish tracks were included on the Super Trouper album. The
trick was repeated on ABBA's final album, The Visitors.
Flash forward
a decade, and the ABBA revival was in full swing. The ten tracks on the Gracias...
album were dug out and released as the compilation album ABBA Oro. Unfortunately,
the record company was a little too trigger-happy, forgetting to investigate the
possibility that there might be other tracks that could be included on the CD.
The five remaining tracks - the four Super Trouper and The Visitors songs plus
a newly discovered version of Ring Ring - were instead included on a second CD
entitled Más Oro. Then, in 1999, the 15 Spanish recordings were
finally compiled together on a re-release of the ABBA Oro CD. In 2002, Universal
Music decided to issue a revamped version of this CD, with a revised booklet -
and, of course, new liner notes by yours truly.
